Tamil comedian Vadivel Balaji passes away in Chennai

 Vadivel Balaji is a Chennai based Tamil actor working in Tamil film and television industry. He was born on 17th February, 1975 and is originally from Madurai. He started his career in 2008. He made his career debut with the movie “Pandhayam” in 2008 along with Nithin Sathya and Sindhu Tolan under the direction of S.A Chandrasekhar, and production of Shoba Chandrasekhar. In 2013, he starred in the comedy movie “Sutta Pazham Sudatha Pazham” directed by Shiva G; a commentary about how wealth and social status as not always the path to achievement.

In 2013, he starred alongside Sundeep Kishan, Dimple Chopade, Uma Padmanabhan, and Robo Shankar in the movie "Yaaruda Mahesh." The adult comedy movie is directed by R. Madhan Kumar, and the critics have praised Vadivel’s performance. In 2015, he starred alongside Wright, Nega, Singamuthu, and, Robo Shankar in “Kadhal Panchayathu” directed by Kalai Shangar. Apart from movies, he has also worked in many TV Shows. In 2014, he worked in the Tamil Soap Opera drama Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai directed by Thai Selvam, and produced by Venkatesh Ramachandran and Ekta Kapoor.

It was based on the hit Hindi TV show Yeh Hain Mohabbatein, and aired on Vijay TV from 3rd Nov’14 to 27th Jan’17. He participated in the 7th season of the Dance Reality TV Show Jodi No. 1, directed by Daniel Aloysius Xavier, with the television actress Shivani. He is currently working on comedy TV Shows like Adhu Idhu Edhu (Athu Ithu Ethu), and Kalaka Povadhu Yaaru on Vijay TV. In 2015, he was awarded the “favourite comedians” award along with Amudhavanan by Vijay Television Awards.

He has participated in live stage shows and concerts while on tour outside India like Sydney and United States. He also performs in a variety of stage comedy shows including mimicry, and stand-up comedy in Chennai. His favourite actor is Rajinikanth, and favourite actress is Khushbu Sundar. He is appreciated for his comic timing and artistic expression in the Tamil community and is counted as one of the best entertainers of the Kollywood industry.

Recently, it has been revealed that he used to work in a mortuary before he became a success in the industry. This, in fact, can be a lesson for people who believe that actors who succeed usually possess backing in the industry. He has a huge fan following and is respected by his peers and contemporaries in the industry.



Vadivel Balaji shared the screen space with “Nayanthara,” Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu in the film, Kolamavu Kokila directed by “Nelson.” Though his role is short, his performance was spoken well. Balaji is popular for his comedy timings and body language that resemble that of “Vadivelu.” He impressed a lot of audiences with his performance in Siricha Pochu, a segment of Adhu Idhu Edhu aired in Vijay TV. Vadivel Balaji and “Ramar” team’s comedy is rib-tickling and that made the show more popular.

Vadivel Balaji had been shooting for Mr & Mrs Chinnathirai 2 of Vijay TV till the second week of August 2020. After getting out of the show, Balaji had been staying in his house with his family. He is said to have suffered from a heart attack. So, he was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. He was paralyzed for nearly 15 days. After shifting him to two hospitals, his family admitted him to the Government Hospital in Chennai. Though he was given enough treatment, the doctors couldn’t save him. Vadivel Balaji breathed his last on 10th September 2020. The 45-years-old actor is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
